Artist and Author

As a writer—fiction and non-fiction—author, editor, book reviewer, teacher,
and artist, I am a woman of many projects.

I grew up in Upstate New York during the 1950s where I romped in fields
of goldenrod and wild blackberries, and played along the banks of
Nine Mile Creek. This setting and these memories provide the inspiration
for the novel I just completed, titled appropriately,
Nine Mile Creek.

In 2004, I co-authored a book for teachers about using digital technologies
in the classroom.

Once I lived........

Once I live upon a time
A shadow I did cast
Now I'm in a different role
Not future, now, nor past

I exist because you let me
A picture I will paint
You hold me deep within your heart
I appear-although it's faint

I splash the ink upon the pulp
I dance across the stage
I'm here because you've called on me
To decorate your page

I've never had a true love
At least not one in flesh
That's how I have love to give to you
A gift that's pure and fresh

When it's just a blank you see
A void where once your art
Open up your soul to me
I'll flow throughout your heart

Where it is the music plays
the voices ring aloud
Where lovers meet, laugh and sway
I'll be amongst the crowd

I'm present in the daycare room
At theatre-back staged
I frequent many concert halls
With passion I'm engaged

Yes, indeed I lived upon a time
You must now live upon your own
Don't wait before your canvas on me
I'm You--all the way to the bone.

BlogCatalog Bloggers for Good Fundraising Challenge

Face it, our schools just simply don't have the funding that we know they need and deserve. The art and music departments are usually the ones that suffer the most. Some of our schools need computers and lack in the latest reading material.

This is our chance to propose what we feel is needed in our schools, maybe in your specific classroom. At DonorsChoose.org, there are many proposals worth donating to.

I would love to see more art and music programs, supplies and instruments available to all our children. Check out DonorsChoose.org where you get to choose what you would like to participate in, whether it be for New Orleans or America's Next top model. There are many ways to contribute: Donate, make a proposal or by Spreading the word about your specific cause. Sadly, there are no proposals from Oklahoma; You can change that. You can search their site to see existing projects/proposals or make your own.

Spread the Word

There are many ways to volunteer locally. Just ask. It's that simple.
This may be a great oppurtunity to start that community project and share that talent you possess. Maybe YOU would like to donate some time as a local art/music teacher. DonorsChoose.org may be just the way to make that dream possible!

*Wow, thank you Blogger--my post just disappeared and couldn't be recovered--the only draft auto saved was the title.
Lesson to be learned would be to use notepad first lol.

________________Artist's Corner_____________

I've been trying, once again, after all these years I've spent studying and observing, to put together a collection of work. Over the years, I have never sold any of them. I gave them as gifts (which I like to do) and even had two portfolio's stolen(which takes me years to start again).

I've noticed there are many different support systems in place now-a-days, for the starting artist as well as the established. Tons of good forums with info!
One of the things I've learned recently is what an ACEO is. I had no clue that when I used to fill my friends wallets with my art, that is what those little pics were! An artist here on blogger has some on eBay and was not selfish with the info on what they were. For that I thank her.

Don't forget about the old days of

paper-mâché

Earth day (April 22nd) and I think it is one of many good projects in honor of that day. It supports recycling.

It's inexpensive and easy. Remember you don't have to make piñata you can paint it and make vases, bowls, pencil holders, centerpieces, amongst many things. The thicker you make it the stronger it is; and the longer it takes to dry. You don't need to start with balloons either. Cardboard or any paper product is great. You can even make your own picture frames with it.
I use flour, water, and Glue-all in mine. I mix it until its pretty thick. It varies. The fun part is to make it so smooth everyone thinks its clay-porcelain or glass!

Any good unique recycling ideas? Please share!
