Art Smart - Art For All (Classroom Project at DonorsChoose.org)

Art Smart - Art For All (Classroom Project at DonorsChoose.org)

Art Smart - Art For All

Classroom project requested by Ms. W. on Jan 16, 2011

My Students: Need to increase self esteem while perfecting art skills? Imagine inspiring confidence in students through the arts.

Students with physical and mental challenges are afraid to draw and confused about art. Practicing makes anything easier. Art builds self confidence. The arts express what cannot be expressed through words and will open lines of communication. Students will be able to conceptualize abstract ideas that are difficult to teach without the use of concrete art materials.

My Project: Students will create unique works of art for the Special Olympics Art competition in our state. In the past, students have had to use classroom markers, pencils, and crayons for their submissions. The use of inadequate supplies has caused a decrease in quality of work. With the use of new art supplies students will be proud of their work and will want to preserve their works of art by framing them. Framing will ensure a masterpiece that can be kept for many years to come.

Individuals of all abilities will have an opportunity for creative expression through art. Art nurtures predictability, stability, and skill building. Winning an art competition will provide some of these students a once in a lifetime chance to experience success.

Worth Sharing

Well, like the title goes Heres to All of us.  And here's to this man.  It's hard to put his books down.  Roger Kiser Sr is a great author and survivor.  He helps with child abuse to this day.  A lot of people were abused but not all make that decision to end abuse for others as well as themselves.  He is a special dude :-)
You can find out more about him and his work on Gather.
The story that I linked to is sweet as can be.  There are several others that make me wonder if I myself am abusive as I get so spittin' mad at the evil people who abused the young boy (kiser) that I want to go back in time and kick them.
They are all written well.  I highly recommend reading them.
